The Elizabeth Coteman Fund made its first grant and immediately had an impact on those suffering from Pancreatic Cancer.
Cambridgeshire based Acorn Cancer Support Group were recipients of the Fund’s first award. The Group, whose aim is to alleviate the physical and emotional distress of cancer patients and their carers, meets at Huntingdon, St Ives and Ramsey and provides a range of services; including therapies and bereavement counselling as well as social events and trips.
Those suffering from Pancreatic Cancer, and their carers, are amongst the growing membership of the Group. Speaking for the Fund, Gerald Coteman said that the first grant was an important milestone.
“Our aim all along has been to support those with Pancreatic Cancer and their families and carers. The Acorn Group helps a number of those with the disease and we are delighted that they will benefit as a result of our grant. Making this first grant is important as it signals, after just eighteen months, that we will be making a serious contribution to the vital job of supporting people with this dreadful disease,” he said.
